OUGD 503 - Freelance Hairdresser

I have been asked by a freelance hairdresser named Georgia Wharram to create her a simple logo that could be easily applied across a range of printed material. Instantly, I think of scissors as these are the main tools used by hairdressers. I want to keep this brief very quick and turn around something as fast as possible, and so I started thinking of ideas and just mock them up quickly on Illustrator. My first thought was creating something incorporating both scissors and walking, representing that she is freelance. This is how it came out:

I really don't like this, it looks very cheap and almost not even obvious as a pair of scissors any more. I continued to try thinking about ideas and thought about trying to incorporate a double storey g with a pair of scissors as they have very similar shapes. Here are the stages of my design:

I wanted to use a g as shown above but refine it slightly, so I just remade it using circles:

I also quickly drew out a pair of scissors to get an idea of how they are put together etc:

I began adding bits to my remade g to make up the scissors shape.

This is how it looks. I really like this, but think that as it is all the same weight the g is lost:

I started playing around with changing the weight of certain parts:

Below is my final outcome:

As you can see, now the g is much more obvious but does not make the scissors any less obvious, and the rounded edges make it look less harsh.
